Our original designs and choice of materials gives you a distinctively different type of knife compared to a machine factory finished knife. Variations in colors, Damascus patterns, and finishes are a natural part of artisan hand made knives and add to their uniqueness and beauty. If specified, some knives are made of D2 steel or 440c stainless steel. Because these are hand made knives, and not machined, you will frequently see imperfections, blemishes, and differences in finish materials that are part of a handmade product and natural materials. 1. Artistically and functionally flawless 5 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Feb 2018

Here's a handmade folding knife that I really like. The handle has the shape of the "flyboy" emblems worn on the breast of many airplane pilots. This shape, along with the deep grooves on the handle, allows for a very solid secure grip. The handle is composed of Damascus metal with a large buffalo horn spacer. The entire handle is covered with deep diagonal grooves in both the metal and horn. Very cool is the way the Damascus pattern can be seen within the entirely of the metal grooves. The pattern of the Damascus steel on the handle is mostly the wavy water type pattern, interrupted in places by a circular bullseye pattern. The metal handle has what look at first like circular metal defects that traverse adjacent grooves. However, I believe that these round solid metal plugs are actually put there intentionally to cover the brass rivets, which would definitely be more noticeable and unattractive. As one would expect, there is no practical way to cover the rivets in the horn portion of the handle so they are visible, unlike the metal portion which has no visible brass rivets.

The Wharncliffe tipped 3.5" Damscus blade is flawless and compliments the shape of the handle well. The Damascus pattern of the flat portion of the blade is mostly circular but changes abruptly to a solid wavy pattern at the point where the blade begins beveling toward the edge. The edge is very sharp but I was able to sharpen it further using only a ceramic rod. The blade opens smoothly and snaps into place solidly producing a knife blade that is unmovable and without any wobble or play. The blade is returned to the handle via a metal release button atop the middle of the handle. The handle's "spine" (I'm not sure what it's actually called) is artistically engraved. The edge of the brass handle frame can be seen all the way around the handle, following every contour and appearing like an attractive spacer.

The one problem was the sheath. Despite being made of top quality full grain leather, the sheath was far too small for the knife. I had to ram the knife into the sheath with great force to get it in, and then I had a lot of trouble getting it back out. The sheath flap could not be snapped closed, even with the knife fully inserted, because the two parts of the snap didn't even reach each other. I work a lot with leather so I used various leather softening compounds along with some stretching tools to enlarge the body of the sheath and elongate the flap. Now the knife fits snugly into the sheath but is still easy to withdraw. The flap is still a little too short but can be snapped closed with a bit of extra effort. The sheath has a leather strap riveted to the back to allow one to wear it on a belt. I suspect that I was simply given the wrong sheath as DKC's sheaths usually have ample room for their respective knives. If you run into this problem simply contact DKC and they will happily and swiftly fix the problem. They ALWAYS fix the problem. That's one reason that I have over a dozen DKC knives.

Overall, this is an excellent handmade knife, both artistically and functionally. Unlike many of DKC's beautifully ornate hand crafted knives, this one lends itself very well to everyday use. I'm proud to have it in my collection.

  2. Excellent handmade knife, both functionally and artistically 5 Star Review

As one would expect, there is no practical way to cover the rivets in the horn portion of the handle so they are visible, unlike the metal portion which has no visible brass rivets.

The Wharncliffe shaped 3.5" Damascus steel blade is flawless and compliments the shape of the handle well. It is without scratches, flaws, pitting or rust. The Damascus pattern of the flat portion of the blade is mostly circular but changes abruptly to a long watery pattern at the point where the blade begins beveling toward the edge. The blade opens smoothly and snaps into place solidly producing a knife blade that is unmovable and without any wobble or play. The edge of the brass handle frame can be seen all the way around the handle, following every contour and appearing like an attractive spacer.

The high quality, full grain leather sheath accommodates the knife well with just a hint of snugness that serves to keep the knife dependably in the sheath. The sheath has a leather flap that goes over the top of the knife and snaps solidly to the quality snap on the body of the sheath. There is a leather strip riveted to the back of the sheath that allows one to carry the knife on a belt.

Overall, this is an excellent handmade knife, both artistically and functionally. Unlike many of DKC's beautifully ornate hand crafted knives, this one lends itself very well to everyday use. I'm proud to have it in my collection.
