I've had my SOG seal pup for a few years now. I bought it when I was deploying to Iraq in 2008 and I still have it now.
If you're a knife snob, a steel snob, or someone who buys things to impress other people, pass on this knife.
If you are looking for the perfect handle, survival, utility, or combat knife, this is a great choice.
Mine went through 15 months of hard abuse, and I learned that it is really the perfect knife if you live out of a pack. I walked the streets of Baghdad, Barqubah, Diyala... as an infantryman just about every single day, subjecting this knife to constant work of not just cutting, but digging, prying, and all the other things you shouldn't do with a knife, as well as being exposed to hell on earth. The finish on the blade looks pretty beat, but you know what? It still holds a razor sharp edge when I sharpen it, and keeps it for a good while, the steel has not rusted i just used a machine oil on it
It's a great size. Large enough to be extremely useful, small enough to forget you're carrying it. It has gone from my combat knife to my horn/survival/hunting knife. It's light weight, takes abuse, holds an edge well, and doesn't break. Folding knives are ok for day to day use, but I find that sooner or later clips break, springs wear out, pivots wear out, and they are easy to lose if you live out of a bag.
A lot of sheath knives are obnoxiously large and a little too "taticool" for me. SOG hit a home run with this knife, and if mine ever dies, I will be happy to shell out the cash for another one.
